My Personal Statement
Film making is something I enjoy as it allows me to learn new creative skills that I never knew rather than had. It allows me to put my own viewpoints, ideas and creative style across to people in a very public way. I have really thrived in the post production aspect of the industry, especially editing. I enjoy this as I feel it is a process that really gels all the work together, and enables me to participate fully despite my issues with mobility.
Throughout my whole life, I have enjoyed watching films (old and new) and try to get to the cinema as often as possible for new releases and through this I have developed a keen interest in the production of film. I always keep up to date with upcoming films, via IMDB and review sites and in particular, I am interested in the work of directors such as Stephen Spielberg, George Lucas and Ridley Scott and films like Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Aliens, Blade Runner and Star Wars. I also enjoy documentaries, for example Walking with Dinosaurs, Planet Earth, Horizon and Panorama.
I first became interested in film making after taking part in the BBC's Breeze Project, a scheme set up by the BBC to seek out new talent within the southwest by giving young people the chance to discover new skills in film and music. I thoroughly enjoyed this scheme and through it I began to develop a keen interest and skill in media production. This encouraged and inspired me to take up film making as a future career and influenced my final decision to gain a more in depth understanding of film production.
I am currently studying in higher education in Film Arts area, where I can expand my interest in documentary and feature film production, as well as maybe CGI special effects. I also like exploring different methods of film production that lead away from the mainstream areas. Having spent much time over the last two years concentrating on editing and production, I am keen to master other areas of the industry, such as directing, filming, sound production, script writing and acting.
In media production, I have gained skills in editing, filming direction, production of websites, advertisements, title sequences, sound design. I have also continued to learn about animation covering the disciplines of Claymation, pixilation, rotoscoping and drawn animation.
Some of the production work required me to work within a team. This gave me a position of responsibility, such as editing in order to complete the production, which I learnt a great deal from.
I have good film editing skills, and the ability to show good direction to my productions. Being able to see a job through to the end and managing all the relevant processes involved in the production of a piece of work is an attribute that I have, which I believe will be vital in the film industry. I consider myself to be very I.T. literate, and have never been afraid to explore my way through software to find the right methods to achieve the work.
In the future, I see myself as an up and coming film maker and director. I have been inspired hugely by my particular interest in the production of documentaries, where I believe my knowledge of history, geography and the local area would be more than useful. I am self motivated in the pursing of my intended goals.
